Career
When we passed out from IBS, the economic scenario was not very positive. We had faith in our abilities and on the knowledge that we had acquired during our education in IBS. I started my career with Icfai. I was one of the founder members of the case development team – Icfai Center for Management Research (ICMR). It provided me the opportunity to use my creativity and energy and contributed to its growth. During my stay for five years in ICMR, it grew significantly and became a powerful intellectual arm of Icfai. After spending five years with ICMR, I shifted to Satyam. For the last four years, I have been with Satyam. I am responsible for developing competency of Project and program management communities across the organization.

Pressure: A part and parcel of corporate life
Pressure has been part and parcel of working life. I love the challenging working environment and keep up taking new challenges. I strongly believe that we need to have passion for our work. My passion helps me ease out the pressure. I also believe that in today’s competitive environment, we need to work smart. Keeping sharp focus on the objectives helps you manage high pressure situations better. And when you come out as winner after high pressure situations, it gives immense satisfaction.

When with family; work should not interfere
It is extremely difficult especially for a workaholic like me. My better half helps me maintain the balance. I realize and accept that it is extremely important that we maintain balance. One simple tip that I have been following is that when you are with family, office should not interfere. There is pact between my better half and me that Sunday is the day for my family and Five days are for office; one day of social activities and networking. When we are at peace in our personal life, we are able to focus on our work better.

Leisure
My best pass time is to play with my kids. I would also like to read something provided I get some time. My wife loves to watch movies and it has become one of most common leisure activity for both of us.

Give 100% or just don’t go for it..
My biggest lesson in life is that we should always remain focused. And anything that we do we should remember what are the assets we will be able to build and what are the outcomes we will be able to deliver to the stakeholders. Either work wholeheartedly or just do not take it up.

Emotional and nostalgic get together with friends
As I mentioned earlier, initial years in my career after IBS were not very easy and I lost touch with most of my classmates. I am happy that in the recent past, I have been able t connect with large number of them. We had a very close group in our IBS days. We were six folks and we were very close in the hostel also. We had a get together last month. It was very satisfying and nostalgic feeling. Actually all of us were emotional.

Your advice to fellow alumni embarking upon their careers.
Management is not what is written in the books but it is what is happening in the corporate world. Keep yourself connected closely with what is happening in the corporate world. We should also know our strengths and in which area our heart lies. We need to leverage our strengths. If you have found the area where your heart lies, rest all will fall in place. I remember one of the leaders when I asked him what do you do, he responded I am paid for pursuing my hobby. Look at the longer time frame. Always keep a vision for yourself. Where would you like to reach in the next five or ten years? If you need to reach to a particular position, what are the actions you need to take to ensure you actually reach there? Keep reviewing it. If required, keep making correction in your actions and plan.
