Your nearest and dearest ones…
Always the nearest ones are the Family Members, My Dad (has been my role model and my Idol), my mom and my wife. But my friends also share a major part of my life; we are a group of friends who have studies together from class 1st till MBA and even after 6 years of passing from the college we are in touch with each other on a more or less daily basis.
You and IBS…
IBS plays an important role in my personality and career. When we landed in IBS in 2000, we were a bunch of raw management aspirants from small towns and were even scared to interact with fellow batch mates; reason was simple-lack of confidence and inferiority complex. It was IBS which gave us a platform to stand up and talk amongst every one and build a confidence in us that by the end of our course we were ready to stand up and talk in any forum.
What went through your mind when you first heard that you’d made it to IBS
Well it was a great feeling, although I was still confused to join IBS, relative and friends asked to join any institute in North India itself, but the tag IBS was quite attractive when compared to most of the North Indian colleges so I finally moved to Hyderabad along with my friends.
What would you attribute as the biggest factor that has contributed towards the face-change of India’s banking industry?
Power of individual…the retail power….this has changed the lookout of the entire world and the industry about India, Bank too being the ones. The power of retail has been the propelling force for the country’s economic and social growth. Retail power of India which includes a majority of youth has changed the way business is done in India and also the banking requirements. Now the retails and corporate in India are more rich and global then ever. The outsourcing face of India has also given a big leap to India.
How well do you think India will fare in the field of banking industry in the future? /Keeping the concept of global village in mind, where do you foresee India in terms of banking industry?
Oh there is a long way to go; India has just started showing its presence in the International market. Apart from IT and ITES, we are not visible on the global map in any other industry segment. We do see some traction building in a few sectors like steel, automobiles etc. but still are far off from getting a global recognition. Banking industry too is just waking up now, the Indian banking industry has historically run the PSU way and customers are not exposed to high end banking solution. With the Banking reforms coming in 2009 we would be seeing some interesting and welcome changes in banking industry. It would then be the survival of the fittest and a long rally of Mergers and Acquisitions; in the end of it all, it’s the client who will be gaining the maximum. Currently due to its Retails strength, India is attracting a lot of MNC Banks but still we need to beat countries like China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and Korea which are doing much better then India in the banking sector.
Your goals … both personal and professional….
Ha ha...Interesting question. Goals are many…Ambitions are many…wish life was just for a day…at least I would have got all I wanted in a days time, but life is not that fair, so waiting for the ambitions to take shape. Personally I just want me and my family to be happy and smiling and have a good health
Friends at IBS…
Oh ya.. the entire classes of 2001, 2002 and 2003 were my friends, most of them I am still in touch with and have a regular interactions. Have lost touch with some…but do remember them. Hope to see them soon maybe through IBSAF.
Your definition of success…
When everyone stands up while you walk, when everyone listen while you talk, when meetings and seminars wait till you reach and when you don’t get proper sleep means you are inching towards success. Ok getting bald is a sign too.
Maintaining balance between professional and personal life…
It is Difficult very difficult; it’s usually only the weekends that we live our life. Luckily my family understands and supports me to realize my dreams.
How do you de-stress after an action-packed day?
Best way to de-stress is not to get work home, forget about office when at home, talk with your family and go out once a week with your family …. stress has to be out; if life has to be enjoyed.
Have you ever cried when a celebrity died? If so, who?
No never…actually no one has ever done any good for the country to make me cry for them.
If you were a vegetable, what would you be? What else but a …Potato.
Advices to fellow alumni… Please come back to your institute and give back to it as this is the place which has made you capable.
