Movie Review – Rock on!!

“The Journey is more important than the Destination”

The movie is all about Passion, Hope, Struggle and Relationships. It starts with a flashback about four friends -- Aditya Shroff (Farhan Akhtar), Rob Nancy (Luke Kenny), Joe Mascarenhas (Arjun Rampal ) and Kedar Zaveri aka KD for Killer Drummer (Purab Kohli) -- they formed a band called “Mazik”. The four are passionate about music and struggling to get a break of their life.

The band won a talent competition to cut out an album but fail because of some mis understanding and consequently split. After 10 years Aditya's wife Sakshi played by Prachi Desai reunites the group. By now, Aditya is an investment banker, Joe a part time music teacher, K.D. dabbles in the family jewellery business while Rob works as a session musician.

This time they overcome their ego, and set in a rock concert where the band performs to perfection. They feel togetherness when one of the band members is diagnosed of cancer. Here the emotional quotient, the skilful performances and the beautiful execution of the subject really made a difference. You can actually relate to the moods, the egos, the highs and the lows.
The music of the film is fantastic. It’s a commendable effort by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy to experiment with Rock Music in Indian movie. A band mix of rock with dandiya is great indeed. Though the tunes are not memorable, it suits the script of the film and the film runs from one song to other, to enhance the emotions of the script. A great example of how songs add to the overall experience of a movie.

Farhan Akhtar leaves no stone unturned to make his debut a success. He lends voice to all his songs which makes the character more real. Though Arjun Rampal isn't well versed with the guitar, he actually acted in this movie. Purab Kohli has a natural flair for comedy. Luke Kenny is influential. Both the females, Shahana Goswami (Arjun's wife) and Prachi Desai justified their characters.

Abhishek Kapoor, director of the movie has taken up new shots and new looks which has made the show different from regular masala movies in bollywood. Overall the film has the attraction to get young audience. Like even the best of movies, Rock On is not without flaws. The pace is slow and to a certain extent the second half is predictable. Still Rock On!! is a movie which everyone should watch!
