Alpha Centers for Learning (ACL)
After handing over 17 ACLs to run as seven Icfai Republic Schools, the Foundation continues to manage 26 ACLs with a total strength of 1,456 students in Hyderabad. The tally of ACLs outside Hyderabad is 63 with a total of 2870 students.
Six courses were conducted in July under the Vocational Training Program at Hyderabad benefitting 130 slum girls.
Adult Literacy Programs are being carried out regularly and the review meeting was held in July. The Senior Citizen Program module has been implemented in seven ACLs of Greater Hyderabad and 54 senior citizens are attending the program.
Health Camps
General Health-cum-Eye Camp was conducted at Borabanda in association with Dundoo Eye Institute and Family Planning Association of India (FPAI). Dental Camp Icfai Republic School, Mehdipatnam was conducted with the help of Sushma, a doctor of Brite Smile Clinic. Nutrition Awareness Program was conducted at IRS, Rasool pura in association with Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). Cancer Detection Camp was conducted in association with Indo-American Cancer Institute and Research Center.
Support to Homes/Institutions
Alpha Foundation has partnerships with Dalit Mahila Mandali -Addagutta (Old age home for women), Desire Society – IDA Bollaram (Care and Support Center for HIV/AIDS-affected children, Ayusha Nilayam (Home for children of HIV/AIDS-affected parents), Sampurna Organization – Old Malakpet (Home for mentally challenged children , Anees-Ul- Gurba (Orphanage at Nampally), Ashray-Akruti (A voluntary organization working for hearing handicapped children), Swadhar (Home for orphan women, victims of domestic violence and women trafficking.
Public – Private Partnerships are running with Government Home for Physically-challenged Girls, Champapet, State Home for Girls, Nimboliadda
Other Activities
Internship program for Icfai Tech concluded in July. The interns spent three weeks each in the Foundation and MaxWealth Trust. One more group of five law
college students went through a 4-week internship program in the Foundation.
A batch of 121 IBS students of year 2008-09 was given an orientation program and 50% of them showed interest in social service activities.
Individual Support
Ganesh Prasad, 11-year old spastic boy studying in a school run by Spastic Society at Bangalore, has been provided financial assistance of Rs.63,700. The amount will help him purchase a wheel chair and cover his fee and medical
expenses for the next two years.
