Career
Nupur joined IBS with no prior experience and was placed with i-flex during the campus placements. In i-flex, She started working with the Asia-Pacific sales team from the day trainings were over. The average time taken by any fresher to move from back-end to front end sales is 12-18 months; however, Nupur moved to front-end sales within 10 months of being with the company. She now handles Sales for the Malaysia territory and may move to Malaysia in the near future.
Challenges
Well, being a fresher in college and also at work, when all peers are more experienced definitely makes work more challenging. The expectations and the demands are no different from the more experienced peers, making a fresher work that much harder to be at par. I was one of the youngest students in my batch at IBS. The same thing continued at work too, where people still have trouble accepting that a 23 year old MBA has been working for 1 and a half years as Assistant Sales Manager. I have tried to make it work to my advantage. I have more time to learn experiment and even make mistakes. I have a long way to go.
One thing you miss about India most:
When asked the same question, I’ve heard people say 'ghar ka khana' most often. Thankfully, that is not the thing I miss most. Singapore is a good place to live in. clean, safe, convenient with a variety of food but lonely. The ONE thing that i miss most about India is friends. I had the good fortune of making some excellent friends during MBA, who are with me till today. My flat mates from Hyderabad all moved to Bangalore for their jobs and we continued to stay together. For us, it was like MBA hadn't gotten over. It is only now, one year after completion of MBA that we have parted ways and I miss that companionship, that feeling of knowing that there's someone waiting for you at home who cares for you. and I miss my best friend, Mahipal Singh Rathore, who has been with me through thick and thin and is my pillar of support.
Take on life
Live life to the fullest. The day you haven't lived your best is a day wasted. There is no reason for you to let even a single day go waste. Life gives you opportunities to do a lot of things; it is up to you to make it work. Look for the silver lining in every cloud. If you are alone in a new city, don't sit home and grumble about it go out and explore it on your own. You never know what treasure troves you may find.
IBS Experience
I had limited expectations from IBS, mainly because MBA was not my choice for a career but the 2 years that I spent in Hyderabad were the most treasured ones of my life. Not a day goes by when I don't wish that I could turn back time and go back to those days when all our time was spent with friends in college. The faculty members were fantastic, making you learn in their own unique way. Some, who insisted that you pay attention, even when you believed that u already, know it all. Some who couldn't care less about the strength of the class as long as they had the students who were genuinely interested in learning; Things like these made you realize that knowledge is not something that can be pushed on to anyone. The thirst to learn has to come from within. and I’m glad to say that the learning from those 2 years, both in terms of academics and personally, are monumental in paving the way for a brighter future
IBSAF : Experience and Suggestions
I have been to a few IBSAF Alumni reunions and I think it is a brilliant way of keeping in touch with batch mates and also creating a better network. All I have to say is 'keep up the good work'.
My idea of leisure
Spending time with people I love and care about. If alone, then going out, exploring the little known areas of the city. Movies, books and music always soothe and when in the mood for some action, the discs aren't far either.
My dreams
To do a job that I love and to have the person I love by my side. In the end, I don’t want to regret not doing something that I wanted to do.
My philosophy in life
I love my life and will live it the way I see fit. If you don't agree, too bad. Get used to it.
Things I love about my job
The responsibilities that come with being in-charge. The freedom and liberty of making mistakes and learning from them. The seniors let you learn and don't hound you or keep harping about a mistake that you might have made. They encourage you to stand your ground and are always by your side for any help and guidance needed that gives you the confidence to move forward on your own.
