Alpha Centers for Learning (ACL)
There are 22 ACLs in Greater Hyderabad comprising 1,306 students. The total number of ACLs all over India is 93 with student strength of 4,466.
Children’s day was celebrated at all ACLs. Various competitions like dancing, painting, poetry recitation, etc., were organized.
Internship Program
Vaishaali Chopra, a student from Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication, Pune, is undergoing internship program with the foundation for a period of 6 weeks.
Private – Private Partnership (Support to existing Homes/ Institutions) Regular support to homes in the twin cities is continued by the Foundation. Homes to which support is being provided are:
- Dalit Mahila Mandali- Addagutta ( Old Age Home For Women And Children)
- Ayusha Nilayam ( Home for Children of HIV/AIDS affected parents)
- Sampurna Organization – Old Malakpet ( Home for mentally challenged children)
- Gurusankalpam ( Home for mentally/physically challenged)
- Medical, Educational, and Nature Service ( MEANS)
- Ashray- Akruti ( A Voluntary Organization working for hearing handicapped children)
- Swadhar – Ramnathpur ( Home for orphan women, victims of domestic violence and women trafficking)
- Apana Sahar – Talabkatta ( Old city orphanage for children)
Alpha Activities in Twin Cities
Vocational Training Program Eight courses have been completed in the month of November 2008 benefitting 160 slum girls in Hyderabad.
Adult Literacy Program
The ALP in Urdu was started in Old City with 25 beneficiaries.
Senior Citizen Program
At present, 54 senior citizens are taking part in the program in eight ACL areas.
Eye Camp for Senior Citizens at Erragada
Exclusive eye camps for senior citizens were conducted in Erragada, near IRS school in association with Lions Eye Hospital, Balanagar.
IBSAF Jaipur organized the Clothes Distribution program at ‘Seva Bharti School in Jaipur on 2nd December, 2008. IBSAF and Alpha Jaipur Chapter jointly organized this program. Mr.Sourabh Sharma, IBS Mumbai (’99), Director, Seema Sandesh Newspaper enthusiastically participated and promised to help IBS Jaipur in future also for the noble cause. During the distribution of the clothes, members talked to each child and told about the benefits of education and urged them to attend school regularly.

IBSAF Bangalore and Alpha Foundation organized a trip for the children studying in ACL (Alpha Center for Learning), residing in the slums of D J Halli, Bharath Nagar, and RR Nagar, Bangalore.
These 60 slum children were taken to Nehru Planetarium and Indira Gandhi Energy Park & Musical Fountain on November 29, 2008. The children were accompanied by their teachers and Alpha Foundation coordinators.
The event was sponsored by IBSAF members, who lent financial as well as moral support in making this event a Grand Success.
The children were taken by bus to Nehru Planetarium in the afternoon, and were served snack boxes. All the children enjoyed themselves in the park, and were delighted to meet alumni who interacted with the kids and clicked photographs.
This event turned out to be a memorable one for the children as well as the alumni. ◊
