IBS JAIPUR 

The Career Opportunity Bureau (COB) is the forum which is initiated to bring the information’s and opportunities for the Students of IBS Jaipur to know about the world around them.

A collapse of the US sub-prime mortgage market and the reversal of the housing boom in other industrialized economies have had a ripple effect around the world. Furthermore, other weaknesses in the global financial system have surfaced and raised the issues before all of us. To address this issue A Panel Discussion on “How India can cope with the financial crisis" was organized by the bureau on November 8, 2008. Prof. C S Barla, Retired Professor and Head, Department of Economics, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur presided over the session. Other eminent panelists were Dr. Rajesh Kothari, Director, Poddar Institute of Management, Jaipur, Mr. Mohit Bhagat, Sr. Associate Vice President, Kotak Mahindra Mutual Funds, Mr. Sourabh Sharma, Director, Seema Sandesh News Paper, an Alumnus of IBS and Dr. J N Dhankhar, Dean IBS Jaipur along with Dr. Meenu Verma, Faculty coordinator of COB, IBS Jaipur .

Blood Donation Camp - IBS Nagpur

With the motive to inculcate a belongingness towards the society among the students; IBS-Nagpur organized a Blood Donation Camp on 21st October, 2008 with Dr. Hedgewar Blood Bank. To inaugurate the function two leading industrialists of Nagpur, were invited. Mr. B L Shaw, Chairman, Jayaswal Group of Companies presided over the function as the chief guest and Mr. Mohan Agrawal, Director, Bajaj Steels Ltd., Nagpur was there as a guest of honor. We received an overwhelming response from students, faculty and staff members who donated their blood as a contribution towards the society. A press release of this event was issued and got published in Loksatta, Dainik Bhaskar & Sakal and broadcasted in UCN News Channel.

MANTHAN – HR Panel Discussion’ – IBS Nagpur

IBS, Nagpur, a leading business school of the city, organized a HR- Panel Discussion ‘MANTHAN’ on the topic ‘Changing HR Trends in The Globalised Economy’ on 29th Nov. 2008 at 3.30 p.m. The program started with a two minutes condolence to the victims and the martyrs who lost their lives during the terrorist attack at Mumbai. The panel discussion was chaired by Mr. Deepak Menaria, AVP-People Development, Global Logic, Nagpur. The other panelists for the discussion were Mr. S M Khan, Assistant General Manager (Personnel Administration), Facor Steels Ltd, Nagpur, Mr. Suresh Pandilwar, Manager, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. and Mr. Harikrishna Gaura, Manager (HR), Zeon Solutions Ltd, Nagpur.

Mr. Menaria initiated the discussion; he said that people are the biggest asset for the industry. He believed that the biggest challenge for HRM is to be a profit center and not a cost center. He also threw light on the issues faced by HR during mergers and acquisition like cross culture issues, culture diligence and business alignment. Mr. Khan explained the previous concept of HR as a commodity and the current view as HR as an asset. Mr. Pandilwar shared experience of his working in the company and the challenges faced by him. Mr. Gaura suggested that HR needs to be very perfect in the era of global slowdown. He emphasized on the importance of HR to cope up with upcoming recession.

Dr. J K Nandi, Associate Dean, IBS-Nagpur underscored the importance of HR in the changing scenario in India. In his inaugural speech, he explained the various challenges in the field of HR. He said that competitive scenario has given tough time to HR. Ms. Swati Mehta & Mr. Ashish Pandey anchored the event. Mr. Vikash Singh extended his heart-felt thanks to the dignitaries who attended the event & also all the participants.

Good idea Generation (GiG) Program by IBS Bangalore:
‘Entrepreneurship Excellence Center, IBSAF Bangalore & National Entrepreneurship Network’

“An idea that is not dangerous is unworthy of being called an idea at all”

The GiG Program started on Wednesday, 19th November 2008, in the IBS Bangalore campus with a time plan of 10 AM to 5 PM with an objective of Converting ‘Good idea to Great idea’. The session started with an introduction speech by Dr. Padma Srinivasan on the IBSB Entrepreneurship center and its activities in the campus. This was followed by an enlightening talk on GiG by Mr. Sameerkanth, NEN consultant. Prof. T.R. Venkatesh , Director IBSB was present to cheer all the participants. There were total 8 teams present with 5 members in each group and a team of 2010 Batch of students. Three of the teams were led by Alumni Entrepreneurs, who were : Mr. Anil Francis Rego (’97), Mr. Balakrishna Paisari, (’97), Mr. Rajesh Kumar M(’99).

The contest commenced with ‘Grouping’.

Each group was enthusiastic after giving short brief of their challenge. 2 hours was given to make a complete business plan. To come up with some thing innovative with their product on which a practical business can be built. 1pm to 2 pm was the networking lunch time. Presentation of business plan was made by each group post lunch, after each Presentation there was a question answer session where each group was interviewed by judges and participants. Mr. Saket Jalan, Class of 1999, was invited as a part of the Jury.

There was cut throat competition between them and finally after a lot of perseverance “SEC D” and “SEC I” emerged victorious. The group led by our alumnus Mr. Rajesh Kumar M was one of the winners.

The best was saved for the finale, when all the judges who were basically entrepreneurs themselves shared their valuable experience as to how much they worked to establish their respective business. The winning team was given a lot of goodies- books, caps, T-Shirts and Rs.5000 each.

MERITTRAC HR EXCELLENCE AWARD
in the memory of Sonali Bhawsar (’06)

MeritTrac Services Pvt Ltd has instituted this award to recognize and reward excellence in H.R. with an objective of creating more students like Sonali Bhawsar.

Ms. Sonali Bhawsar, IBS Bangalore (’06), was employed with MeritTrac Services Pvt Ltd as an HR Executive for a period of 18 months. She was a person with high levels of energy, enthusiasm and integrity, and her personality captured the true spirit of MeritTrac.

‘MeritTrac H.R Excellence Award’ is given to someone who excels in all fields of HR and emulates the qualities of Sonali Bhawsar.
AWARD: The award will consist of a Citation and a cash award of Rupees Twenty Five Thousand.
ELIGIBILITY: Students who have opted for at least two HR electives in their 3rd Semester
