CYNOSURE
2007
……..A Competency Quintessence A National Conference on Human Resource Management 29 – 30 October HR: A Requisite for Business Transformation
Businesses often face rapid and constant change but there must be a balance between managing daily operations and simultaneously planning for the next wave of change that is mandated to stay in order to be competitive. Organizational transformation is not a luxury. It is a necessity for companies to continuously transform and reinvent to remain viable in their markets. Managing transformation defines the ultimate winners in today’s business environment. The impetus to transform may vary. In some cases, transformation is stimulated by rapid deterioration in an organization’s competitive position resulting from unforeseen and unanticipated changes to the competitive environment, or by hitherto unknown rates of change. In other cases, transformation is opportunity driven, resulting from the desire to create or enhance competitive advantage by exploiting a new or emerging technology. This often requires organizational, process or people changes. In the case often referred to as a business turnaround, consistently ineffective leadership or management may cause a firm's competitive position to deteriorate to such a degree that a transformational perspective may be required to restore its competitive advantage. The demands of transformation for speed, innovation and execution may not be daunting if organizations know the role of their HR leader in planning for the transformational change required to ensure the competitiveness of the organization, acquire the skills and knowledge needed to successfully execute transformation, and get the insights and best practices of others who have been successful in executing organizational transformations.
