After two years with IBS, Romil initially struggled with the bad market conditions in 1998, but by 2001 he was with the forex division of Vadilal Industries, which acted as the launch pad for his career and as he says “My career progressed exponentially thereafter.”
Romil moved to Mumbai in 2003 and joined Risk Management Division in Clearing Corporation of India, He moved on to Raft International as Business Analyst in 2004. “I got a very good exposure in Raft as I traveled to client sides in Germany, USA and UK. In March’2006, when I was in London, Financial Objects Plc acquired Raft international Plc and also signed two major deals with Shell and E.ON for our credit risk management software. To execute these projects in cost efficient manner, it was necessary to have development and knowledge base in India. I took this challenge and came to India and set up a team of technical and business people.”
In the midst of high pressure situations, Romil emphasizes on Project Planning, Control and Communication. “Many times, based on my experience I anticipate such problems and take necessary steps to overcome them in advance. I also involve my subordinates in making various decisions. It is important that team members have right knowledge of client needs and any high pressured situations so that it brings ownership among them for the projects.”
About the future of Financial Services sector, Romil says “Financial services market has evolved fantastic globally. Robust regulatory framework in various developed and emerging economics has instilled confidence among investors. Real time network has made them well integrated and brought more transparency in the financial markets.
Despite recent incidents like Bear Sterns, Soc Gen… I think financial services will continue to grow further in next 5 years. There will be more development in risk management and providing user friendly facilities on internet. I also feel that financial services will expand its reach and will be further tightly integrated in other asset classes like, commodities, retails, logistics, energy etc…”
Romil’s biggest source of inspiration is the life and values of Lord Mahavir and he believes that “life is dynamic; nothing in life is static and permanent. So, one should flow with time.”
Happily married to Shwetal since 18th March 2004, Romil believes in living in the present and doesn’t worry much about the past or the future. This helps him maintain complete harmony between home & office. “When at home I concentrate fully on work and while at home its time to be with family and relax.” Shwetal is a home maker and full time mom to their 2 year old son Dhrishit. Romil’s parents live in Ahmedabad where his dad runs a Water Management Consultancy Company. |
