Career after IBS..
“I always wanted to be in a profession that provides not only financial freedom but finance and freedom. Eight years back the thought of a career option into Independent Management Consulting was not conventionally acceptable. It was a hard decision choose and an uncharted territory; in fact the initial couple of years were pretty tough. Clients were not open to the idea of availing service from independent management consultants, it was when a few clients availed and benefitted from our services that the word of mouth spread and put my career as a Management Consultant into a higher orbit. Yes, looking back into that decision; today it is a highly rewarding and exceedingly satisfying career. IBS..
Overall it was an intellectually stimulating and holistically enriching experience at IBS, the finer ability to adapt to fast changing business challenges and the knack of spotting latent opportunities in the apparent challenges was one of the most important lessons I learnt at IBS. B-school degree..
Is helpful but the question remains; is the curriculum constantly updated and concurrent to the need of the Corporate? I am afraid it is not the case with all B-schools; as a result there remains an ever widening gap between the learning in B-school and Application needs in the corporate world. A close and constant interface between the industry and the institution is what needs that extra reinforcement to blossom the school-corporate symbiotic relationship. Perfect Life…
The word ‘perfect’ is profoundly strong a qualifier to be with the word ‘life’. The convergence of interest with career, the fusion of passion in profession and striking a healthy balance of professional career with family life…an opportunity to explore and experiment with myriad facets of life without compromising the fundamental principles of life, can be epitomized close to a balanced and satisfying life. De-stressing…
I enjoy writing on myriad subjects ranging from the paradoxes of the society to the inscrutable human relationship to satires of day-to-day life. That addresses my creative stimulation and a game of cricket or jogging keeps me physically fit. Yes, it is tough to be fit in this big fat competitive world.
2 years at IBS..
Appreciation and accolades, I received from my batch mates & faculty members when a series of my management articles title ‘Give those brains a break’, ‘Scorecard on an even keel’ and ‘Cut the Talk, Build the Links’ were published in the Learning Curve section of The Economic Times.
Biggest Lesson..
Persistence pays, follow your passion…both good times and bad times never last forever, so striking a balanced harmony by not getting overly excited in good times and excessively dejected in the bad times makes a huge difference in experiencing the wonderful journey of life.
Idol..
Though I have always been inspired by the thoughts of the Management Gurus Sumantra Ghoshal and C K Prahald; surprisingly, my idol is from the sports field, and it is Sachin Tendulkar because of the unflinching commitment he demonstrates for Cricket… the convergence of one’s interest and career. In spite of his tremendous achievements, he maintains his humility and modesty, and of course the inspiration and smile he brings to millions of people through his performances.
India; A step behind the rest of the world
Discipline: A simple but profoundly striking word
Infrastructure: A Complex and Powerful word
Friends…
Our e-group , IBSAF events and Magazine have kept the group in constant connect
Hobbies…
Creative Writing has been my hobby, so I cherish articulating on various subjects and Cricket has been my interest, so I enjoy watching the matches…the T20 format has added that extra tinge to my interest basket.
I love reading as well. The last book I read was “Levers of Organization Design” by Robert Simons (HBS Press). My Favorite book has been ”The Minding Organization” by Moshe F. Rubinstein and Iris R. Firstenberg – Bring the future to the present and turn creative ideas into business solutions.
Goals…
The goal was to explore and excel in the world of management consultancy…not to get cramped into the specialist role hampering the creative arm, wanted to play the generalist role and explore new avenues and opportunities. So after having a brief stint in the area of product, market and business development; wanted a course where I get an opportunity to learn all facets of business management – the marketing, the finance, the system, the HR; the dual specialization in IBS offered that wonderful opportunity I was looking for.
Advice..
Any chosen career can be highly rewarding and satisfying provided one has the conviction and commitment to pursue and persevere through the rough and tough of the journey. Choose the career which is closest to marrying your passion with profession.
