Business Analyst ,
Oracle

I am an Engineering Graduate and an alumnus of IBS Hyderabad,Class of 2001, hail from the Steel City of Jamshedpur, and at present working as a Business Analyst with the North America Project Management Office in Oracle ,Bangalore.I am having around with six plus years experience in Service, Manufacturing and IT Industry with almost three years in Oracle specializing in Project Management, Risk Management and Quality Management. I have worked in several capacities on several projects in India .My work with different sectors has exposed me to numerous Retail, Supply Chain, Financial, Textile and Manufacturing project environments, providing me with valuable experience of how to succeed under challenging conditions. I have been Involved in KAIZEN, 5S, CMMi level initiatives with my present and my previous employers apart from my regular work.

Me and my family..

I come from the Steel City of Jamshedpur ,having spent most of my years there as my father was a Manager - Personnel with TATA Motors and my mom was an excellent housewife and a wonderful cook. We are now settled here in Bangalore with wife working with Accenture as an Content Analyst and we are blessed with a 1 year old beautiful girl.

Sojourn in IBS….

Career started on a slow note with 2001 economy slowdown and dot com burst.Always wanted to be a part of Consulting and Project Management, thanks to IBS who gave me a break of my choice in the Project Management field in 2001 when the world was getting bitter with companies refusing to come in for campus. With the perfect launching platform I was ready to fly.Manufacturing sector always inspired me from my childhood days,as my father was in Manufacturing company throughout his career. This made me join India's one of the top 5 Textile Manufacturing Company as a Consultant in the their Corporate Strategy division.Have got the experience and exposure in the tough manufacturing sector I moved to IT Sector as a Business Analyst with Oracle Consulting. That's how my career shaped in this past six years and I can proudly say it was progressive enough.

High Pressure situations…

Yes,I feel work and stress are synonymous. My Idea of  de-stressing is relaxing at home on a Sunday, playing with my kid ,listing to light music and sometimes cooking. Both I and my wife enjoy traveling and we try and take two vacations a year.Usually every summer we head out to a place we've never been before and spend the vacation enjoying the local cuisine and culture of that place. We generally go to our native place every October that is the festival season in India and we try to be with our parents and friends during that time. These small breaks charges us to carry on with our work pressure in the coming months.

Balancing work and family…

I believe balancing work with family is totally dependent on an individual and needs to be managed based on personal needs. There are times when family needs more attention then work and there are other times when work needs more attention. Thanks to Oracle as we have flexi work hours and we can even work from home.We have a small 1 year old baby and when she is unwell I prefer working from home so that I can be with her.As a family ,we try to and spend as much time as we can and make it a point  to have dinner together everyday.Saturday we generally freak out here and there have dinner outside and Sunday we prefer staying at home playing with my kid , watching a DVD and spending some quality time with my family.

Idea of relaxation….

Listing to light music, play with my kid, go out for long drives.

What is the future of IT sector in India and globally, especially in your profile in the coming 5 years. Can you share your vision of the future of IT Sector with us.

The political and economic opening up of India, China, Turkey and the eastern European states have led to a change in competition on the world's markets. These countries are already considered attractive procurement markets, especially by European companies.India has become the frontrunner in the booming Outsourcing Sector, thanks to highly qualified people and the country's leading position in IT and Communication. An increasing number of international banks and insurance companies are discovering this service in order to make optimal use of the untapped profit potential, and the sector has been booming.According to a study of the market research institute IDC, Outsourcing grew globally by 8% in 2003 generating a turnover of 405 billion US dollars.IDC expects this figure to increase further to more than 680 billion dollars by 2008.

How connected are you with your friends and batch mates of IBS.

I had a closely knit group of friends while I was in IBS and continue to stay in touch with almost everyone. We all are busy in our own professional and family life, thanks to IBSAF for conducting Alumni meets every 6 months which helps us meet each other and share our experiences , it seems time has frozen for all of us . I only hope these Alumni meets are conducted more often (once in 3 months) which would make us meet more often.

Your Advice to fellow alumni embarking upon their careers especially in your field in the IT sector.

I would always say " Follow your dreams, however tough the road may be...one day you will surely make it !!" Don't compromise with an easy path, that will take you no where in life .Just follow these three principle in your life to start your career ( 1) Profile, 2) Company and then 3) your Salary).Generally nowadays youngsters prefer the other way round which they feel is the easy way out .I know that this sounds like an idyllic advice from someone. But ,just make sure you realize the scale of impact that this one decision will have on the rest of your life before you make it.

With his Family
