Yogesh Nair, an alumnus of IBS Hyderabad, Class of 2004, is the General Manager of EC Council, an internatonal Council of Electronic Commerce Consultants. He started as Project Manager at EC Council and has since come a long way.

know about this certified Ethical Hacker, in this column.

Mr. Yogesh Nair,
IBS Hyderabad, (‘04)

General Manager
EC Councl.

Me and My Family………

The initial 23 years of my life was spent in Mumbai. I belong to God’s own Country “Kerala”. After completing my Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Mumbai University in 2001, I moved to Hyderabad to pursue MBA (IT & Systems) from IBS. I am from the 2004 Batch. Currently I am working with EC-Council as General Manager. My family consist of 5 members; my parents who are retired Professors of Mumbai University, my lovely wife Dhanya, with whom I am happily married for 3 years and our 8 month old son, Aakarsh, who has changed my outlook towards life.

The Place I Work…………

These include specialized areas such as academics and education, information technology, healthcare, manufacturing, financial, communications, and government.

EC-Council provides professional certification and facilitates peer interaction to build and enhance the knowledge, skill and professional growth of its members. EC-Council offers several options for aspiring and practicing Electronic Commerce professionals to internalize and draw on skills identified as essential web industry standard for Electronic Commerce. Life after IBS…….

By God’s grace, there has been no looking back. Opportunity knocked on my door and I joined EC-Council as Project Manager and in three years moved up the ladder to be posted as General Manager. All the skills that I honed during my 2 years at IBS Hyderabad proved to be of great use in shaping my career.

Why e-commerce and security?

Computers and associated technologies were always my fascination. I was hooked on to computers right from my college days. Information Security is a challenging field where you need to keep yourself updated daily. I love challenges and like to experiment with new technology. There was no better field that would have served my interest.

Perfect Life…

Nobody is perfect. One can only strive to make one’s life better. Life is full of uncertainties; hence the word perfect doesn’t really gel with life.

Future of the e-commerce industry

According to May 2007 Forrester Research Report, the E-Commerce Industry would be worth $259 billion this year. As more and more people transact over the Internet, security would be of prime concern. Issues like Phishing; credit card harvesting is plaguing the Internet world. Most users are ignorant of security issues while shopping online. There are certain dos and don’ts that one need to follow while shopping online. User awareness has not yet reached the maturity stage. We have a long way to go.

My Personal Choice………. Internet or the Old way

Depends. I use the Internet primarily to book my tickets. I rarely shop for goods over the Internet.

Relaxing Mantra

Spending time with my family is the greatest stress buster. With my son Aakarsh around I feel completely relaxed and no better way to get relieved of all the work pressure.

My Life and Aakarsh

Aakarsh is the motivation of my life now. I feel more responsible. Being a parent is not easy as its time for you to set standards for your little one.

My Better Half

Dhanya works as a Software Engineer with Infosys Technologies Hyderabad. Post marriage Dhanya has been my source of strength throughout my career life. She is an amazing woman who can balance family and work with ease. We got engaged when I was in my 2nd year of MBA. This August we would be celebrating our 3rd Marriage Anniversary.

Parenting…

One has to be very patient. It’s a great feeling when you know there is a little one who looks up to you for everything.

IBS……….

All the moments spent at IBS Hyderabad were special. At IBS I have made some very good friends for life.

Biggest lesson so far………

Go by your instincts and believe in Karma.

Ideal

My parents. They taught me the true meaning of Karma. Being the only child of working parents I never felt lonely as I had found a friend in them. I could discuss with them anything under the sun.

The IT Industry

The boom in IT industry is definitely not like the “E-Commerce Bubble Burst”. With Global players like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Satyam to name a few, we are in for serious game. A strong foundation has been laid by the Indian Giants. India’s core strength lies in Her Intellectual Capital. In the coming years India will be a major player in the IT segment on a global scale. However the rise in value of Indian Rupee is a matter of concern for now, but I think the Indian Government will definitely take measures to curtail its growth against the US $.

Data Security on the Internet

Data is never secure unless we take precautions. Your email and chat transcripts can be read by anyone on your network if he/she has access to the right hacking tool. Globally, organizations are having tough time in combating data theft. Users should be educated about data security and protective measures.

Suggestions to keep your data safe

Follow the golden rule i.e. backup your data on a daily basis. Make sure you protect your data with strong encryption/passwords. After 9/11 organizations across the globe have realized the importance of securing data. Organizations need to practice “Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning” to make sure that the business operation is not affected incase of any untoward incidents.

Friends @ IBS

I am in regular touch with all my friends and batch mates at IBS through email, phone and community groups.

Suggestions for IBSAF

Over the years IBSAF has become a strong Alumni Body. As an Alumnus I feel IBSAF should promote Alumni interaction with the current batch so that our juniors get to know the latest happenings in the Corporate World.

Advice to fellow alumni who are embarking upon their careers

I have not reached that level in my life where I would be giving advice; but I am sure that all my fellow alumni are doing great in their respective fields. I do read IBSAF newsletters every month where I come to know about the latest happenings in each of the featured alumni’s life. After all an IBS experience is enough to make your life GET, SET and GO!
