Me and my family……
Basically from Rajasthani community born on 21st August, born & brought up in Chennai. Myself Ajay Kumar Nahar, graduate from D.G.Vaishnava college, Madras university took up graduation in marketing & finance passed out in batch of 1999.
Traditional business of my family has been hire purchase and leasing with a tit bit of trading in shares.
My wife Sandhya did her B.A. Corporate secretary ship and is currently coordinating in my business. My son Darshan, aged 6 years is a child model and has done more than 40 advertisement major hit being Saravana stores, Tamilnadu mercantile bank, Shree gold winner dall and oil , etc.
I am currently the managing director of Ajay Investments & Nahar finance co., we primarily do finance activities in Kerla,Karnataka,Andhra Pradesh,Madhya Pradesh & Gujarat.
I am also the CEO of Rajasthan tent marketing, a showroom with the largest supplier of decoration articles in Tamilnadu. Our family has recently constructed a high school in Lambiya, Dist:Pali, Rajasthan.
Journey after IBS
Well immediately after I completed my post graduation in 1999 (Before which I got married i.e. Feb. 1999). I realized that my responsibilities have got multifold hence immediately I charted out a plan on expanding business into new areas and creating branch offices across India. There are 5 offices as on date starting from 1 in 1999.
Also the system of accounting and asset management was standardized and hence was made flexible to use.
Once my hire purchase and leasing business got set, couple of years back, I started a venture by name of Rajasthan tent marketing which sells the items in bulk which are used for decoration. The key aspect of this business was no competition, i.e. Monopoly.
Now I am trying my hands at the hot cake – Real estate and construction.
The success Mantra
Smile even when you are in deep trouble because even after all the efforts are made the ultimate result is a result of destiny. So why not we smile and relax our body, mind and soul because we know we have given our 100 % to our job. So just be cool when you have done the best you could. Smile many times paves the way for your work. It’s worked for me with many govt.officers, R.T.Os, Tax commissioners, etc., So, keep smiling.
High pressure situations
Take a deep breath when you are about to decide finally on a typical situation. The other idea which I personally try is to divert your mind from business activity to social activities. Like this year our trust has given scholarship to the tune of 5 lakhs, daily medicines are given in geriatric ward of Govt. General Hospital & above all running a charitable dispensary with around 2100 patients per month. Such social activities relax me for a while and hence I get charged to meet any high pressure situation.
Balancing work & family....
I schedule my day in to various time zones where in the morning before 10 and evening after 7 is meant purely for my social activities and my family. I strongly believe that though money plays an important role in life but there is always something more than money. Yes that’s your love and affection with in your family. I make sure that I am on holiday for minimum seven days with my family. I have enjoyed holidays in Kodai, Mussorie, Ooty, Goa, Rajasthan, Delhi, Mahabaleshwar, Nepal, Darjeeling, and Far East Asia in my 8 years of Married life. That’s the only major plus point I got as an Entrepreneur i.e., my family.
Things I remember at IBS
It was wonderful when I played the main character in Profounding “COLISEUM” an inter B school meet at Chennai. Our batch of ‘99 won the overall shield at Kolkata, probably the 1st meet amongst IBS campuses. Also our team won shields at Tirupathi, Pondicherry, LIBA, M.O.P College, etc. Hence it was our turn and we brought “COLISEUM – Rendezvous with excellence” which changed the way of conducting management meets all across south B schools. Though connected with yahoo group I miss my friends and the lunch parties we used to have.
Life as an entrepreneur
No doubt you are the master of your business and are not answerable to anybody. But you certainly miss the corporate atmosphere & also become lazy sometimes at work.
Being an Entrepreneur your social commitments are increased. The other major set back is a tough competition from MNCs in my field of Hire purchase finance.
But we outperform them with a better personal service attention and better response. Our interest rates are still competitive and hence our service is our USP.
Ending note
I wish each student of coming batches the very best. Guys always remember that once you are in a corporate world or an entrepreneur, you should feel you are equally challenging and competitive. Ultimately what matters is your performance.
