Mr. Biswaroop Padhi ,
IBS Ahmedabad (’04).

Director

Razor Corp.

“I am a person of varied interests. Some of my areas of interest include sketching, painting, singing, advertising and business modeling. I am an NCC (naval wing) ‘A’ certificate holder and a Karateka. I have represented my school in football, basketball, volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis at National, State and District levels. I have won numerous awards in debating, elocutions, quizzes, singing and other group events.”

Currently based out of Ahmedabad, Biswaroop hails from a family of senior bureaucrats and technocrats from Orissa. His father is the Head of a leading non-Ferro metal manufacturing conglomerate while his mother is a home maker. He has a younger brother who is pursuing engineering.

Biswaroop, a person of varied interests, has studied in various schools across the country. Before joining IBS Ahmedabad, he completed his bachelors in Civil Engineering from Nagpur University, and thinks that was the best thing that could have happened to him.

His exciting professional career started with TATA Teleservices as a Channel Manager for Ahmedabad and North Gujarat. After a year in telecom, he joined GE as the Territory Manager (PL) for South Gujarat. In a short while, he was approached by Citibank N.A to head their ReadyCash Sales in Central India. But by then, Biswaroop started nurturing dreams of starting a venture in the academic sector on his own. So, there he is right now … currently running his own education consultancy in Ahmedabad, besides dabbling in some other ventures since the past 2 odd years.

“I thank the stars the day I opted for IBS. I understood my worth and the entire credit goes entirely to IBS. With the economy reviving from a slowdown, IBS was also shaping up as a renowned B-School in western India. I was really fortunate to be able to live the transformation. From one floor to six floors; from a handful of students to traffic stopping numbers; from companies refusing to acknowledge our presence to companies not being able to do without us … it has been an amazing journey throughout the past decade!”

Channel Manager, Territory Manager and now an entrepreneur—achieving this much in a short time means that there have been regular handlings of high pressure situations in his professional life. Biswaroop likes to look at work-related pressures from a relative point of view. As a marketing professional, for him, pressure meant month ends and terrible bosses. But, “as an entrepreneur one has to be on his/her toes at all times (even outside office). So, I guess, in the corporate world whether you are an employer or an employee the only things that are constant are ‘change’ and ‘pressure’. I always try to remind myself that a diamond is just a piece of coal which did well under pressure!” Well said!

It was our turn to ask him about his ways to maintain the perfect harmony between home and office. Being single at the time of the interview, Biswaroop had not felt the heat of balancing home and work. It would be more interesting to have his take on the subject now after his recent marriage to his batch-mate from IBS Ahmedabad, Sinduja Raman.
His practical approach to handling stress comes from his outlook on life. He thinks that whether one wins or loses in any undertaking, the biggest thing to look forward is that there should be no regrets. He says that “I am not extraordinary, but I don’t shy away from giving something extra to ordinary situations.”

When asked about the future of finance services and marketing sector in both national and international terms, this is what he has to say though he claims that he is not an expert in any of the fields: “One thing I can say with almost blind faith, the next 2 decades will either make or break India. And I am betting big time on the ‘make’ part.

Idols …
“For personal integrity, commitment levels and his sense of sacrifice, my father is my idol. For flamboyance and his maverick approach towards life, I really admire Richard Branson. But most importantly, LIFE itself is my greatest teacher.”

Friends …
“I like to be well networked. Thanks to the telecom revolution and networking sites, I am in constant touch with almost 80% of my batch mates as well as my seniors and juniors.

Advice to fellow alumni …
“Borrowing a few lines from a phenomenal advertisement I would like to say, “The only boundaries that exist are the ones in your head. Because while the world stops all those it can ... it salutes the ones it can't! The only one stopping you is YOU!”
