Dayesh Angle , IBS Pune (’98)

Sr. Manager

IBM

Me and my family …

I was born in Goa and completed my schooling there. I then went to Thrissur (Kerala) to pursue B. Tech in Chemical Engineering. After that, I joined IBS, Pune for PGDBA and also pursued CFA simultaneously in 1998.
I am married to Priya, who also happens to be an IBS alumnus and CFA. She is presently a faculty at IBS Pune, after her stint as Finance Manager with Daimler Chrysler India.

We have a 4 year old daughter, Ananya, who studies in KG in DAV Public School.

My career graph…

I got started with Tata Finance Ltd. as a Management Trainee in 1998, looking after their Car Finance Portfolio in Pune.

I then moved to DGP Hinoday Industries Ltd. in 1999 in their Finance Department. DGP Hinoday was a joint venture between DG Pirmal Group and Hitachi Metals and was then taken over by M & M group. It’s a leading automotive components manufacturer. Here I got an opportunity to handle various facets of Finance including Working Capital Management, Treasury and Forex management. My achievements here were specifically in areas of fund raising (including an ECB), interest cost reduction through innovative trade financing as also profitability improvement through management accounting.

After moving up the ladder in Hinoday, I joined Techbooks, an e-learning and content transformation services provider as the Finance Head for their Pune unit in 2006. After a short but fruitful stint, I joined IBM Daksh Business Process Services in my present assignment as the Financial Controller for their Pune Business Unit.  I am a member of the Business Unit Management Team. My present role broadly includes overall responsibility for achieving the financial goals for the Unit through Financial Planning, Budgeting, Financial Controls, MIS, etc.

The IBS days…

The IBS sojourn has given me a lot to fall back upon, right from the very specialized finance knowledge as also the management training that I carried forward. This has helped me immensely in my professional career till date.

IBS is a wonderful place for learning and prepares you thoroughly to take on the challenges of the professional world.

Ideas of a perfect life…

Honestly, I don’t believe in anything called as Perfect life. I think life is a challenge at every stage and how you approach these challenges determines your character.

Ideal in life

None

On facing high pressure situations at work…

As there is always a “demand” to deliver, it’s quite common nowadays to face high pressure situations at work. The best way to face such situations is:

  • Invest in people
  • Learn the system around you
  • Be always prepared and focused
  • Ensure that you are able to deliver consistently

Balancing work and family…

This is again something of a challenge for most of us. I try to balance my professional-personal life to the best of my abilities by spending as much time as possible with my family on weekends, going out for dining, etc. and plan short getaways when possible.

Biggest lesson in life…

One always has to be independent and have the courage to take decisions.

Distressing …

All kinds of delays and worsening infrastructure situation

My other hobbies…

I follow cricket on TV whenever possible.

My friends / batch mates at IBS …

I do make an effort to stay in touch with my IBS friends over phone and emails.

My industry—India and abroad in the next five years—my views…

I am in the outsourcing industry and what we have seen till now is only the tip of the iceberg. Over the next 5 years, India is going to play a huge role in the global outsourcing industry with its vast talent pool and knowledge capabilities, despite concerns such as long term currency appreciation and wage inflation.

Advice to the young starters …

The outsourcing industry provides an ideal platform to be a part of the global workforce. Take a dip in this pool and you’ll feel part of a Knowledge ocean.

Plans for the future…

I like to take life as it comes. Therefore, I don’t plan too far into the future.
