Me and my family…
I am working as CEO with an IT & Telecom System Integration company which is headquartered in Bahrain and has branches in 10 other countries. The company has operations across Middle East, East Africa and now the Indian peninsula (including Pakistan). The company has, approximately, 320+ sales and technical resources. This year the company would be touching 50-60 million US Dollars in revenues.
My wife is working as a lecturer with one of the universities in Bahrain. She is an MBA (Finance), MA (Economics) & M.Phil (Management) by qualification. She is a great cook & an excellent companion. She is my pillar of support.
My experience with IBS…
I completed PGDBA (Marketing) & CFA in 1998. This was the second batch coming out of IBS and like any upcoming institute; IBS was trying to establish itself. Doing both the courses together was challenging, especially with the intensive preparation required to clear the CFA exams.
My career post IBS…
Initial days were tough as the job market in 1998 was not as exciting as it is today. In the last 10 years, I have remained completely focused on sales & marketing functions within IT & telecom domain. I have grown over these years from Management Trainee across different levels to finally becoming the CEO this year. Today the role has changed from sales to a general management role.
Handling high pressure situations…
Over the years, high pressure situations tend to become a routine. I firmly believe that one cannot take good decisions when one is tensed or stressed. I also strongly believe in the idiom ‘Be ready for the worst but prepare for the best’.
Balancing work-home…
This is the challenging aspect in any professional’s life in a modern day workplace. For me spending time with family helps me to de-stress and also helps me in remaining grounded. My wife is full of life and extremely witty. When I am with her, I completely forget the stress at office.
I have not gone on vacations for last few years. This is one aspect which I would like to improve upon. Having offices in India also helps me to be with my parents every month.
When I tied the knot and…
I got married in October 2002. My wife is Reenu and she hails from Panipat.

With wife Reenu
Biggest lesson in life…
I have learnt a lot of lessons in life but the ones that are closest to my heart are ‘There is no shortcut to success’ & ‘Hard work always pays in the long run’.
My idol…
I have many idols ranging from my parents, wife, previous bosses, ex-colleagues, to subordinates. One needs to learn from anyone and everyone in life and make efforts to imbibe the best.
My friends and batch mates at IBS…
I have made a few very good friends at the institute and I am still in regular touch with them, even 10 years after passing out from the institute. I would cherish these relationships for ever. I am very much in touch with them who have become close friends over the years. We speak to each other regularly as geographical boundaries do not permit us to meet regularly.
My advice to fellow alumni…
Everyone has a niche in the corporate world and one needs to identify his or her niche as soon as possible. The only way to be successful is to be passionate in what one does and enjoy it thoroughly. This can only happen if one identifies what he or she is good at rather than what his peers are doing. Compete with yourself and not with others is the mantra. ◊ |
