“My family and music are my greatest stress-busters.”

Mr. Vinod Balachandran Nambiar, IBS Bangalore , ('97)

Test manager

Infosys Technologies

Mr. Vinod Balachandran Nambiar, IBS Bangalore (’97) is working with Infosys Technologies as Test manager where he manages a team in the Independent Validation Services BU. Evidently; Vinod finds his profile interesting which involves managing client, people and timelines. He has a varied working experience. Prior to his current profile, he worked with Everest Software (formerly iCode), an ERP product company, as a Domain expert, attached to the Product Testing unit. With varied work experience in ERP, operational finance, banking and consulting services, Vinod has had a colorful and rather eventful roller-coaster ride since IBS, which he feels has made him stronger.

He fondly cherishes the IBS memories which are deeply etched in his mind. He has made friends there on whom he can depend on anytime, anywhere.
Going back to his professional life, Vinod says, “At Infosys the work demands very honest and frank approach. This is a culture being driven by the entire management.”

And this sure gives birth to tricky situations where the pressure at work and the demand to produce may not always meet the challenges. But he is not the one to be bogged down by the high-pressure situation at work. He believes that, “One should look at life in totality. I try reminding myself about this every time I face a tricky situation. When faced with a challenge I try looking at things from a “top of the tree view” and see if the whole picture is seen. Getting the whole frame in mind is extremely important for one to handle stressful situations.”

On being asked about the future of IT industry, this is what Vinod has to say, “The going will remain good in the mid term. The next recession whenever it happens will be a rude shock for us Indians as we are more and more integrated into the global community and kind of APING the lifestyle of the west.

IT will still drive the top segment of growth in the Indian industry and will remain something to look forward to for the next 5-7 years for sure. It is for the policy makers to start looking at other avenues of sustainable development and growth so that the general business and employment scenario is more balanced and involves manufacturing and other segments of the industry. Retail is much talked about now but in my view that is more towards the consumption side.

Vinod is quite a family man too. He loves calling Deepthi, his wife, best-half rather than going by the wind and calling her better-half. He spends a lot of time together with Deepthi and his four year old daughter, Aditi; especially during the weekends, and over watching some movies and listening to some good soul-stirring music from collections of yore. Listen to what Vinod says on his family-time, “I love to sing at home sometimes, only if my daughter allows me that is! Music to me has been a great getaway and I love getting transformed into a different world while enjoying music”.

This go-getter balances work and leisure real well and doesn’t value money over family. For him money is of no worth if it cannot be enjoyed with one’s family and friends, some of whom dates back to his IBS days and he cherishes them well.
According to him, to have a good and rewarding career, one has to be flexible and open while looking at career options and always needs to keep long-term goals and plans in the perspective.
