Technical Architect
Infosys Technologies Limited

“The right mix of curriculum for IT and Finance has put in the much needed business understanding to an engineering graduate and helped me become a versed techno-functional IT professional. Apart from curriculum, the team work, collaboration and exposure provided by gurus an peers assisted in enhancing my soft skills, much needed for a positive growth in Industry such

Mr. Vishal Gupta, IBS Hyderabad (’00), is a Technical Architect, working with Infosys Technologies Limited. As the interview opens, he seems to be in a reminiscent mood. A Bangalorian by birth, he remembers about the initial years in his life spent in this metro before his family moved to Hyderabad in 1982. Life has been many things for him since then, but never dull.

The trend continued with his sojourn at IBS too where he imbibed the training to work and play the smart way to avoid having a dull environment. Every day at IBS had been a great achievement. The zenith for him was the moment “when our college won the MBA fete at Osmania University, a great example of team work exhibited by batch of Y2K.” The friends made at IBS are friends for life. He is quite well connected with them through frequents visits and discussions over social blogs. “It is always been a pleasure to see how good our batch-mates have been doing in life”. Amidst all the fun and masti, the college also prepared him for his career which took off with Danlaw Technologies India. He stayed with this organization for 3 years and moved on to experiment with Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence.

He had been conferred with various roles in Satyam – mainly technical / functional and managerial. After testing these waters for 4 years, Vinod chose to streamline his career as a researcher and Thought Leader in Infosys SETLabs unit.

The success of Vishal’s continued success in his chosen career of Business Intelligence undoubtedly goes to his hard work and experience gained in these last 7 years, his family members, and his near and dear ones for all the support that they have provided him with. He always maintains that, “It depends if you want to labor throughout your life or be able to manage it. Smart worker always makes the best out of the opportunity and

“My wife, Sonika, a technocrat herself, has been very understanding and my son, Pranav, always shows more maturity than is expected from a kid of 5 years.”

resources.” And his philosophy has definitely paid off as he got three promotions in a year. Congratulations Vishal!! God job done! Keep it up!
When asked to comment upon the future, changes and developments in IT sector, this is what he has to say: “Future of IT is that it will become more pervasive. Pervasive devices will become the dominant means of information processing and access.”
According to him, the future of the highly competitive e-business will be dynamic, more adaptive, continuously optimized and will depend on powerful business analytics and knowledge management for survival.
Sophisticated management and analysis of data

will enable winning enterprises to rapidly and flexibly react to market events.
Likewise in education, Vishal opines, that it would not take much time to transform the classroom learning into m-learning.
“India, which is moving from Solution and IT outsourcing to being a consumer, is aware of the challenges of other developing countries becoming attractive destinations. Research and innovation capabilities, along with the managerial strengths being recognized and outsourced, the need to outsource the lower revenue earning IT jobs to cheaper destinations is becoming evident”.
Moving on to lighter veins, he says that he enjoys cricket to the extent that he has made it into his religion though his current hobby is badminton. He actually loves to be outdoors either playing sports or travelling to new places. And he creates time to read and keep up with friends besides spending the time with his family in his off time. Quite a busy man, that he is!
Vishal has always been very interactive with IBSAF; but when comes to suggesting improvements, he says that he needs to be more interactive to be able to judge. Most welcome Vishal!! We look forward to your participation and feedback. Towards his fellow alumni his parting comment is, “I think a few hours in a year is not too much to divert to activities of IBSAF, it has always been fun to be part of IBS and reliving the memories is a greater experience too”.
