With his wife, Chandrima who is a topper in Electrical Engineering from the Jadavpur University. She has now taken a sabbatical and is busy being the perfect homemaker.

Analyst
Accenture

Mr. Anirban Sarkar, IBS Kolkata (’04), is currently working with Accenture at Gurgaon as an Analyst under Consulting vertical. Anything that he has succeeded in, Anirban attributes the credits to his parents and his wife. He is quite proud of them, and why not? His father is an alumnus from Bengal Engineering College, Sibpur and a retired professor in Mechanical Engineering. His mother is an MA in Sanskrit from Jadavpur University. And he emphasizes, “I have imbibed all the virtues like honesty, integrity, discipline and fighting against odds from my parents as they are my idols.”

Till his higher secondary, Anirban studied in Ramakrishna Missions (Purulia & Belur) in West Bengal, which he thinks, was the perfect beginning as Ramakrishna Missions teach to have a holistic view towards life. He did his bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Bengal Engineering College, Sibpur (presently Bengal Engineering & Science University) in 2001 and then joined IBS Hyderabad.

IBS is one of the major milestones in my career. My brother (Who is an IIT KGP alumni) always say that, to get counted in professional life one should have at least one branded educational institute and a professional organization under one’s belt. IBS has become so big a brand that it gives me an added advantage to sell myself. Also the study material is one of the best among all the B schools. I still refer them whenever I need to. IBS is nothing but “Indian Brand Statement”.
Life after IBS has blossomed through various opportunities and multi-faceted roles for Anirban. Currently he is working in Accenture India Pvt Ltd, Gurgaon as an Analyst under Consulting vertical. Prior to that he had the privilege of working in Bells Controls Ltd, Hydearabad and Ensim India Pvt Ltd, Pune. Anirban says, “The statistical and analytical skills that I imbibed while studying in IBS, are being used extensively in my current role in Accenture. I am really happy that I have finally got the role which I always dreamt about and IBS should get all the credit for that.” That apart, Software Consulting is one of the most booming areas in India and abroad. So that adds to his job satisfaction as it also goes to say about the future of the field. To give an example, Anirban’s department (IMCC) in Accenture itself is supposed to grow by 20 times by 2009.

Though very passionate about work, it never takes him away from home. He balances his professional and personal life by managing his time and relieving the pressure by talking to his parents and wife, Chandrima. He also as a rule never varies work home and vice versa. The best de-stresser as he says is a good sleep. We hope all of take a lesson and try these out.

The conversation takes another turn and Anirban talks about other things in his life which are:

His Ideal:
1. Swami Vivekananda
His biggest lessons in life :
1. Fight against all odds
2. Never say Die
His hobbies:
1. Playing cricket, football, volleyball, TT
2. Reciting Bengali poems since his childhood
3. Enjoying anything that is edible, especially which is cooked by his mother and his wife
His Dream:
4. To be an entrepreneur
When asked about him and his friends at IBS, Anirban recalls a huge list of friends both from IBS Hyderabad and IBS Kolkata. “Initially I was in IBS Hyderabad and shifted to IBS Kolkata after almost a year. So there are huge list of friends in both the chapters. Although it’s not very easy to connect with all, I try my best to get in touch with majority of them. I stay informed about the rest by knowing the progress and major happenings of them—thanks to www.ibsaf.org.”
As the interview winds up, Anirban sends his message to his fellow alumni who are about to start their careers:
1. Think a lot before pursuing a career
2. Join where your passion is, where you can add value and where there will be value addition in your career
3. Once decided, stick to it
4. Always think long term
5. Have a big heart and fight till the end
