Assistant Vice President - Cash Management

HSBC

Nimit had a yearning to go for management education from an early age. After his graduation in Commerce, he pursued his dream and completed his MBA from IBS Ahmedabad in Finance and Marketing in 2001. IBS was a big learning ground for Nimit. The job market was not at its best in 2001 yet he was lucky to get a job. Since then, he has worked with few banks, taking his career on a steady progress path from retail banking to corporate banking. Nimit’s expertise in the field enables him to foresee the future of the finance sector and he pronounces that, “Financial Services is a growing field & will continue to grow in the next 5 years. It will be a good industry to join, as the growth wave will be enough to take one forward. Mutual funds, insurance, banking, brokerage houses, asset restructuring, private equity are going to grow in India.”

The IBS education prepared Nimit to face the high pressure situations at the workplace. He elaborates that making 4-5 presentations in a day with nearly no time to prepare, one automatically learns how to handle pressure situations. According to him, high-pressure situations are best handled without getting excited, staying calm and sticking to the basics of one’s work. Most of the times, it requires extra effort that one should never shy away from. His philosophy for life reflects the same line of thinking as he says, “one has to be patient for success & trust only one’s own efforts”. This is the same reason that Nimit doesn’t believe in ideals. For him, every one has his/her unique individual positive quotient.

With a ten-month old son, maintaining work-life balance is very difficult to achieve, quips Nimit, as one does not know where to draw a line. He says, “I generally try to be home by 7.30-8.00 pm so that I don’t overstress myself. I take short vacations to recharge myself and keep my family happy. I try to attend family functions and get-togethers, which for me are good stress busters.” However, Nimit’s idea of leisure is to listen to music, spend time with his son or socialize which he mostly does with his friends and batch mates from IBS. He is in touch with most of them through mails, phones or get-togethers.

Nimit’s advice to fellow alumni to accelerate their career growth:

Whichever industry you join, show a lot of commitment
     Be positive
     Do not complain
Whatever assignment you undertake, do it with commitment: Only then you will earn        respect.
