Dear All!
A warm hello to all my alumni colleagues from IBS!
Time flies, they say , but as you look back and take a deep breath, one feels , that indeed it has been a long journey and one has crossed many milestones, personal, professional and also as a member of the IBS community, on the way. One thought that struck me, when I visited the new IBS campus in Hyderabad during the Reunion, was how our alma mater has grown over the past few years under the guidance and vision of the able team, driving the institute, at the helm.
The sprawling campus, the massive edifices, the well equipped classrooms, the large hostel, facilitating over 2000 students, the gymnasiums in every wing, plans for a football field, tennis courts and swimming pools … the list simply goes on and on … ! One daresay that IBS is no longer merely an educational body …but an institution itself.
There is no denying of the fact that the success of one’s alma mater plays a catalytically significant role in promoting one’s professional growth as well. To that extent the growth of IBS is very significant to each one of us and as responsible and capable members of IBS alumni community we should indeed look at how we can help grow our institution.
Here I will like to share a personal observation. My father did his PG from IIM (Kolkata), way back in 1968. Back then, IIM (K) was a very good institute but by no stretch of imagination commanded the aura and respect that it commands today. However as the years went by and the IIM (K) flourished, my father and his batch-mates automatically derived the benefits from the brand. One did not have to go an extra mile to derive the benefit from the brand.
The point now is that as members of the alumni federation, should we sit back and enjoy the growth of IBS, thanks to the positive approach and actions of the IBS management and the growing economy? OR, help build this brand further as responsible members of the alumni federation?
If you tend to believe the latter, here are a few thoughts on what each one of us can do, and IBS will gladly support your initiative! - Do visit the IBS campus in your city regularly for interactive sessions with students. Share your professional experience, any special skills or contemporary knowledge with these budding professionals, so that when they join the corporate world, they can relate to your real-time experience
- Help IBS students to join your teams as Summer Trainees. While it may be challenging to help them with final placements, assigning summer projects should be relatively easy. Trust me, our students can be very valuable resources over a period of 4 months and leave us with valuable reusable assets
- Contribute through sharing real life case studies during the course of your interactions
- Share your ideas with your local IBS managements on how you would like to promote Brand IBS in your own little way
- Don the mantle of a mentor for a group of young IBS students, who can look upon you for any industry related inputs
- Take lead and organize your batch reunions in the IBS location in your city
- Join as a visiting faculty where opportunities exist in areas of your interest
- And finally, do try and visit every alumni meet that is organized in your city
