The peak of summers is here and the heat is really on… not only on the temperature but also on the pockets of the mass. The inflation has hit us hard as it has reached a three-year high of 7.41% — substantially above Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) target of 5%. And in the midst of the entire hullabaloo about it and its effect on the purchasing power of consumers, the other side of this coin is steadily going unnoticed. The adage energy cannot be destroyed, but can be transferred from one form to another holds true for economy as well. Money cannot be destroyed though it can be transferred from one hand to another. True, there are industries which are gaining from inflation. Hence, if you are losing money due to inflation, there ought to be someone who is making money because of it. So, it’s high time to find out about the same and to invest in them will be a wise decision in the long run.
Money matters being taken care of, here’s time to cheer the winner all the way through—the IPL. It is cricket and cricket through out as a new phase is heralded in the game’s history. Of course, it is early days to predict that the Twenty20 league will change the nature of competition in cricket. The game's only got richer for it. And let’s say Amen to that!

Back to our own circuit, a lot is happening to keep us occupied as well. We have had a series of activities in the past starting from CEC Meet Hyderabad, IBSAF Review Meeting to Alumni Meet at Pune, Jaipur and Ahmedabad. Going by the numbers we have had in these meets, we can be sure that we are on the right track of keeping YOU ahead and bringing YOU closer. As it is said, opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. But not us. We just took everything in stride and changed into our chances to meet you and bring you closer. The SIP evening on 17th May was also well received where we saw alumni members who assigned projects to students at IBS being felicitated.
In this combined issue of May-June 2008, keep up your rendezvous with Manoj Gupta, Vinod Nambiar, the alumni couple Aparna Ravindran and Pramod Kutty, Vishal Gupta and Anirban Sarkar in the Page 3. Deepak Kuriakose, Vidyashankar Ramakrishnan, Shrikant Kalluri and Ravi Kumar Rathi ruminate upon their student days and their experiences at the IBS Admissions 2008 in Reflections.
The hazardous issue of Global Warming has been made to understand in Varun Prashant’s simple yet powerful writing. We Heard From You and Wedding Bells are definitive updates for you about your fellow alumni’s lives. While Bookwormz and Cool Links will prod you into exploring the unread and uncovering the new destinations, Biz Quiz will certainly tickle your brains at the same time. Sriparna is back with her Ways to Happiness that elaborates different ways to be happy and emphasizes to make Happiness the journey, not the destination. The launch of Venture Academy at IBS Mumbai is covered in the Campus Khabar in this issue.
And last, but not the least, take a picturesque tour through the CEC Meet, Kolkata; CEC Meet Hyderabad and Alumni Meet, Pune.
Happy Birthday to all you May and June Born! Wishing you a cooler pasture!
Cheers!
